This year’s theme is “Communities Share the Care”. Grande Prairie Hospice Palliative Care Society is working diligently to engage our community to “Share the Care” and provide what is needed to offer individuals who are palliative, and their families, the ability to deal with their individual circumstances with dignity, unity, and support. We need your help to assist us in being a voice for our community! We are promoting quality hospice palliative care in our region and need to know what that means to you. The information gathered will create an agenda for change. The GPHPCS is proud to represent our community and need to hear from you to ensure we are working for the community. Laura sadly lost her Mom to cancer this past month. In her memory she is raising money to walk 60km, in June. She has a group of friends that are joining her and GPHPCS will be the recipients of their efforts. “I want to honor my Mom’s memory and make sure that I raise enough money so I can leave a legacy in her name. My 6 month old daughter won’t remember her Grandma but, if I reach my goal of $5,000, I can make sure that there is something I can show her (my daughter) when she gets older. Because my Mom received such good at home palliative care, I know how important it is not only for the person who is sick but for the family and caregivers. For my Dad it was important for him to be able to eat well and sleep in his own bed so he stayed healthy and could care for my Mom. I am excited I have the opportunity to do this for Mom so she will be remembered.”
From all of us at GPHPCS we extend our condolences to Laura and know that she will be successful in her efforts to leave a legacy in her Mother’s name. To support Laura or find out more, please contact Heather @ 780.897.0066.
